William Franklin has published an article in Tax Adviser entitled “End of an Era” which explores the implications of the withdrawal of Post-Transaction Valuation Checks by HMRC.
Earlier this year, HMRC withdrew procedures whereby some share valuations for employee share schemes could be agreed promptly. This means that there will be greater uncertainty as to the tax liabilities that may arise on some share awards. William proposes that different approaches and thinking will be required to manage the associated heightened tax risk for clients.
